Lauren is literally the GOAT. She is very funny, sweet and smart and I learned so much in this class. Whenever an interviewer asks me what my favorite class has been so far, I always mention this one. Take it and take it with her!
This is definitely a good class to take at UVA. Course varies over the semester but its mostly an hour reading assignment for every class section then lecture. Easy test, easy 2-page reading response. Final is a case-study or paper, also not hard. Lauren is nice and understanding.
One of my favorite classes I've taken at UVA. Lauren is a fantastic professor--she's very approachable and an engaging lecturer in class that encourages intense discussion on interesting topics. The readings and the homework are very applicable not just to the class but everyday life, and I have found them useful in multiple areas long after I took the class. There is no final exam, just a final project of your choice relating to the class. Definitely try and take it with this professor.
Awesome class and professor, learned a lot and had fun doing it. Lauren is super nice and engaging, makes the class fun. Also a strong class dynamic fostered good discussion, adding to the enjoyability of the class. Highly recommend her and this course!
This class really drills your reading, writing, analysis, and expressive skills. The most memorable part of this class for me was noticing the change that happened to me from the beginning of the semester to the end. Not only does Lauren encourage her students to participate concisely and to the point but she also expects intelligent and well-thought out arguments. The readings may become too burdensome but it is definitely worth it in the end when all class is about is heated up discussions.
