I expected this course to be easy based on prior reviews, but I quickly discovered that it was not. Professor Hoehler-Fatton is a wonderful woman, but she is almost too smart to teach the course to nonreligious major students. There was a lot of reading each week that was often difficult to understand if you did not have prior knowledge. The TA was amazing!! Honestly, I believe I learned more in the discussion section than in the lecture. The exams do not match her style of lecturing (Powerpoint with no words and her talking the entire time at a quick pace) with exams being very detailed short answer and essay all closed note. Overall, unless you are a religion major or are very interested in this topic, don't take the course. It's not worth the hassle.

I absolutely loved this class. I thought it was so interesting, Professor Hoehler-Fatton is so incredibly approachable and it wasn't too hard. I would definitely recommend it.

The class is split about 60/40 between history of Christianity in Africa and African Christian theology. Not too much work, with one midterm (graded pretty easily), a 5 pg book review, and a final. M. Hoehler-Fatton is very knowledgable and her work in Africa really enhances the course. She's also just a great person to get to know.
