One of the best classes I've taken at UVA! Professor Miller is an engaging professor that genuinely cares about his students, and is a fair grader. It's a discussion based class; every class we have a reading to do and then we discuss it in class. The readings are usually interesting and the discussions end up being really cool. There are also 3 essays, but I enjoyed writing them since Professor Miller gives you some freedom to choose what to write about. Overall, I loved this class and wish I could take it again. Professor Miller is awesome!

I had such a wonderful time in Music and Discourse with Karl. When he lectures, the material he talks about is engaging and interesting. When he leads discussion, he knows exactly what questions to ask to get us to a certain point. He would often reconsider his views on a certain subject based on something the class discovered, which was so validating! Despite his busy schedule, he was always more than happy to chat during office hours (he gives great restaurant recommendations) and I will miss him so much while he's on sabbatical next year. Take him when you get the chance!
