This class is really fun if you enjoy music composition and learning about music composition. I was told that I would be bored if I joined the class because of my background in music, but honestly, I think knowing musical concepts before going in is essential to doing well in this class (unless you are willing to put a lot of hours into learning music!). This class really isn't as easy an A as you would think (unless you know piano and/or know how to make chords and cadences and do Roman Numeral analysis). You do quizzes every week and learn new topics almost every class. There is a take-home midterm. You have to perform a personally-created composition at the end of the semester. Lecture is essential to getting a good grade; you can learn from the book, but it is more difficult than having it shown to you. It's still a fun class! I recommend it to anyone who wants to broaden their musical skills. Take the course work and quizzes seriously and give yourself enough time to study and you should be fine! Also, Kristina is really nice and will help you out, even over email!

Interesting class. A lot of homework and a fair amount of new concepts. Make sure to understand everything otherwise you can easily be lost.
