Honestly, you don't have a choice concerning this class. You are either in it or you're not. However, let me just say that this class is extremely useful in finding out about research labs. Take it as an opportunity and don't be shy to apply for a lab first semester if you find a good one. Also, make sure to get a togo box of OHill cookies before class starts. That is a tradition.
