Bond has had an amazing life, but too bad his lectures consist of fast mumblings draped in a monotone voice. His anecdotes are amazing, but too few and far between. He even seems uninterested in the material, but I guess I would be too if I was reading the same lecture notes over and over for decades.

I really liked discussions, but not lectures. BORING
Not particularly difficult, and the readings are interesting but lecture consists of Bond mumbling verbatim from his notes for two hours
This was easily my favorite class all semester. While Professor Bond does talk a little too fast and reads straight from the notes, he seems to want to really engage the student. He frequently stops in with a joke (or the occasional political rant.) I would definitely recommend this class. There are two 5-7 page papers, and one final exam. Also, a discussion section. If you have Emily as a TA, you will be set.
This class was one of the best classes I have taken so far. A great opportunity to hear the history for someone who lived it. Emily is an amazing ta who helps further clarify points made in lecture and the overall themes of the course
Great and easy class. Lecture was boring many times, but Bond is a great man to learn from. Going to class isn't completely necessary, because everything from lecture is in the textbook. Discussion sections is where you'll learn the most information.
bond is a great man, but in my opinion a pretty terrible lecturer. reads straight from the notes for two long hours. when he tells stories, they are good ones, but they are few and far between. i really enjoy the civil rights movement but this class could have been taught much better by someone who knew how to teach. on the plus side, its really not that hard.
This is one of the best classes that I have taken at UVA. Professor Bond's stories are fascinating and the reading is interesting. The midterm and final are very fair.
Interesting material, interesting stories from Bond when he told them...but he mostly just read from his notes, which is the same material as his book.
Bond has written a phenomenal textbook and makes great use of media (Movies and Songs) but lectures are long and dry. This is really a class for those who want to engage in a serious historical study of the time period, and if this is your goal HIUS 367 is a must. However, if you expect frequent tangents and "story time," stay away.
