I really enjoyed this class - it was easy, educational, and fun. Professor Kahrl is a super nice guy and very knowledgeable about the subject. He brought in many outside speakers to chat with us - I didn't find these to be all that helpful, but it was nice to hear such a diversity of perspectives. The class is almost all writing and participation-based. You should definitely do the readings, but I wouldn't worry if you miss a day or have to skim them once in a while. Part of the class is getting involved in volunteering and attending a public meeting in Charlottesville or Albemarle. I thought this was very fun, but for some people, it can be frustrating. I would recommend getting started on these as early as you possibly can, just in case there are any issues with scheduling. Overall - this class is an easy A and a great starting point for local politics.
