This course provided a deeply interesting perspective on the Age of Jefferson and how his ideas shaped American History. The format was very clear: There were 2 papers, a take-home final, and participation, which determined your grade. That said, the workload was light for a 3000-level course. Papers were 5-6 pages in length, and the final was a maximum of 1000 words. The professor gave super interesting lectures and seemed passionate about Thomas Jefferson. The TA, Alice King, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate as well. I definitely recommend this class; just make sure you do the readings and participate to the best of your ability.

This class is really, really amazing. Professor Dierkshiede gives interesting lectures and, combined with the class readings, this class will change the way you look at the founding period and Thomas Jefferson. The course load is quite light for a three-thousand level history class so all of the readings are interesting and essential. Also, try to get Alice kIng as your TA if you can, her and professor Dierkshiede make a great duo to understand TJ in a new way.
