A lot of people complained about the class but it was actually not terrible if you did the reading. That being said, the reading was pretty time intensive so I could see why people were not doing it. If you're willing to put in the work though, there is no reason you won't do well.

Apparently, I am one of the few who didn't not enjoy this class. I simply could not pay attention to the lectures. Kett had many tangents, or talked about incredibly specific things, so I never knew what was important. Basically, I spent an incredibly amount of time taking textbook notes since my lecture notes were not helpful. Additionally, the section readings were all primary source documents from before 1865, so they were quite dense. One of my least favorite classes I'm sorry to say.
Be careful of the TA. The TA controls your grade in this class. I had a bad TA and this class was a horrible experience because of that.
Mr. Kett is hands down one of the best professors I've had. I've always hated history but needed to get my requirement out of the way, and I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed this class. Kett enjoys his subject, and although he may diverge in his lectures now and then the material you need for the exams is always present in his lectures. He is an awesome lecturer, never moving too fast. The little details/anecdotes he includes make the class worth going to and surprisingly interesting. Lee Bowden is an amazing TA who compliments Kett perfectly. She will always review his lectures if he was unclear and really contributes to the discussion to ensure students fully understand all the readings, as they appear on the exams. Two midterms and one final, all writing. The exams are not hard if you review his lectures, dont really need to book but definitely the section readings. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Lots of reading but overall a good class. Definitely recommend.
Awesome class that is an easy grade if you do the work and follow along. Great thing about the class is that you don't have to do a lot of writing and the reading is average for a history course.
Honestly I really enjoyed this class. Unfortunately Kett only taught for about half the semester because he needed to have an operation. However, I really did like the class when he taught it. And I never read the textbook and still got a good grade. I just did the reading for section, sort of.
Funny lectures, moderate reading, and fairly easy exams. Take lots of notes on lectures and remember the dates during which the readings take place and the class is relatively easy.
This guy knows evreything about everything. Really interesting class if you're interested in the Revolution, etc.
This class was worthwhile. It's A LOT of reading, and generally you really need to read if you want to do well in the class. its a fairly straight forward class. if you read and take the midterms seriously and study for them, its fairly easy to get a B.
