Great way to get your history requirement out of the way. Just two 10-page papers and class participation make up your grade. You read a bunch then write a paper and nothing else.

Stagg teaches the HIUS Seminar about James Madison. He's very knowledgable about the subject matter and is an overall nice, helpful professor. His lectures can get boring sometimes, which is why a lot of kids in the class (me included) occasionally just mess around on our laptops. In regards to the workload, the readings can be a lot but not unbearable since it's a once-a-week class. Few people do all of the readings. I would recommend reading the majority of the book-assigned readings and skimming/SparkNotesing the documents, letters, etc. It's important to participate in class and contribute insightful things regularly. Also, the two ten page papers aren't as bad as they seem as long as you don't put them off and have a pretty good topic.

Professor Stagg really knows a lot about the course material. Although he grades the two 10 pages papers (80% of your grade, the other 20% is participation) very tough, I learned a lot about Madison and how to read and understand primary sources. Overall it's a pretty good, chill class, you just really have to do well on the papers, obviously.
