Linstrum is one of the nicest professors at UVA. He is incredibly engaging and passionate about the topic. I took his Imperial Violence seminar and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is quite a bit of reading to be done, but nothing unmanageable. Course requirements include active participation, weekly reading and one page written responses, two papers, and a final. If you put in work to the class and do all that is required you will walk away with an A.

Prof. Linstrum is AWESOME. This was a hard class- we were basically reading a book every other week, and on our off weeks we were reading short(ish) essays, but we only met once a week and he let us out early many times. He is also a hard grader in my opinion. Try really hard in class and on the weekly discussions because he DOES grade for real in participation. Still, he is a great guy and an even more amazing professor. Go to his office hours, he has a lot to offer.
