This was my favorite Engagements class I took. If you are interested in art or calligraphy, definitely take this class. The professor is really chill, and you are basically guaranteed an A in this class as long as you complete all the readings, practice posts, and reflections, all of which are straightforward. For the final project, you can literally decide what you want to do, so be as creative as you want. 10/10 recommend. #tCFspring26

I took Unlocking the Treasure Box of Chinese Calligraphy with Ran Zhao in Fall 2025 semester but didn't see it as an option. Overall, this course was really enjoyable! I learned a lot more about Chinese Calligraphy and was also able to get practice with an actual brush. Ran Zhao is a really great instructor and made the material easy to learn. For homework, each week there was 1 reading assignment and 1 practice assignment. Almost every assignment was on a class padlet where for each reading assignment you wrote what you learned and a summary of the reading and each practice was a picture of your practice calligraphy and reflection on the process. Almost every grade was completion and it was fun to learn more about calligraphy. #tCFfall25
