Professor Sweeney is very knowledgeable and very sweet! You can tell she cares. The lectures were interesting. You are graded on participation and attendance, 3 quizzes, a group project (write-up, presentation, bibliography, etc.). Quizzes (tests) are all online and take home. There were readings, but she covers everything in class and in her slides. I just took it for fun, but it was worth it and helped my GPA #tCFfall25

One of the best classes I have taken at UVA so far! I adored Professor Sweeney, she was a great lecturer and an amazing person. I am not in the EHD school and took this class while in the college, and even though it doesn't count towards anything, I absolutely loved taking it. The curriculum covers child development, mostly in the early years (approx 1-3 years old) and touches aspects of speech, physical, and cognitive development while incorporating the impact of family, socioeconomic status, and culture. If you're at all interested in working with kids, I would HIGHLY recommend it. There are three take-home closed-note quizzes throughout the semester that are relatively straightforward, and Professor Sweeney gives a very thorough study guide beforehand. There's also a multipart group project at the end of the semester that was also straightforward however, it highly depends on having good team members. There are readings before most classes, but they are easy and fairly interesting. I seriously cannot recommend this class enough, and if you're going to take it, take it with Professor Sweeney; she is the absolute best! (Attendance is taken and counted in the final grade!)

Professor Sweeney is one of the best professors at UVA! She is incredibly intelligent, kind, and is very encouraging of her students. I have loved having her as a professor this past semester and I highly recommend her class. If you are looking for a low stress, and very interesting course to take in the school of education, don't hesitate to register for this course.

Professor Sweeney was a bit boring. more of a 'take notes on your laptop and don't really pay attention' type class. tests are on canvas and you don't go to class when you have them just take them in your pjs!! There are 3 NON-CUMULATIVE tests but a final paper instead of a final exam. she also takes attendance ..
