Overall I will say I definitely learned a valuable skill in SQL so I am thankful for that, but I wish this class was done in a different way. Before you can do sql you have to learn all about the relational model, ER diagram, etc which is absolutely necessary in order to create/manipulate a database. However, it did feel like we spent an unnecessary amount of time on these topics and relational algebra in particular. I would've liked to have gotten into SQL earlier in the semester so we could've all learned it better. Dobolyi is a nice guy, but it was hard to pay attention sometimes. I thought the grading was pretty fair with the exception being how much vocabulary and seemingly useless facts go on the fill in the blank, mc , t/f section. It felt just like random questions from ppt slides that you never would've imagined were relevant (learned from my mistakes on midterm 1 and made sure to know everything for the final). The only big assignment besides the tests (there are a bunch of smaller hw/in class quizzes but they are completion/attendance based) was the project which I thought was actually pretty cool. Definitely learn your SQL ahead of time though - the project took forever since we all were just learning how to do a lot of the things we needed.
