Bateman is the best professor that I have had at UVa. He is humble, yet hilarious and manages to really teach you a lot each class while keeping you very entertained. Reading is assigned, but there is very little and you can just do it right before the test.
I almost did not take this class because it looked like a guaranteed B, but that would have been a HUGE mistake. Anybody who is considering it should take this class, no questions asked. Plus, the grading is easier than the graphs would suggest :)

Stay away from this course. Prof. Bateman is a great guy but the tests he gives are horrendous. The majority of the questions are short answer and must be a direct quote from the book. There is no partial credit on any answers (I asked the TA). This class is presented in a fun way but will hurt your GPA.

Lectures are usually pretty fun and the speakers that Bateman brings in are great. The midterm and final are pretty detail oriented so beware!

He's enthusiastic and fun. The guest lecturers vary from boring to really interesting. It's not an easy A class but it's enjoyable most of the time.
