Fairly easy and laidback class. Professor Bateman often would go off on random tangents. He really wants to get to know the students, and wants to go to lunch and coffee with everyone. Slim to no notes need to be taken in class. He will tell you what is important to know. 2 tests and a paper. Tests were some what difficult if you didn't read the textbook but the paper was easy and he pretty much tells everyone if you try you will get an A.

Bateman is a really nice and informed professor who genuinely cares about the subject! We had some really interesting guest speakers and got to watch films during some of the classes. The material seems somewhat straightforward but it is actually very relevant to a lot of the concepts covered in McIntire classes during 3rd and 4th year ‪#‎tcf2016‬

It's really not a bad *class*, but the tests are ridiculous. He looks for extremely picky points from both the book and what he says in class, and is not interested in how well you know the big ideas. This class is almost purely based on how well you can memorize to regurgitate - the tests are NOT multiple choice so if you don't know the 5 components of relational leadership off the top of your head, you're up the creek. And don't think synonyms are going to help you out either - you have to get the exact words word-for-word. There are no pity points. He seems like a nice enough guy, and is really encouraging in lecture, but he'll pull a fast one on you come exam time. Also, he claims to have curved, but I was 1% away from the regular cutoff for the next grade and didn't go up so if he curved it must have been 1/2000th of a percent.

Avoid this class like the plague. Bateman spends lectures talking about himself rather than narrowing down the 700 pages of incomprehensible blabber he calls a textbook. It's an easy enough A- if you want to spend your time putting your fingers through a meatgrinder to memorize stupid buzzwords to recite on a poorly written test.

Professor Bateman is very nice and funny. His lectures are entertaining and he also incorporates guest lecturers, movies and in-class discussions with other students. The tests can be a bit specific to the book readings, however. Professor Bateman is also very accessible and even makes time before exams to meet with students in Alderman for questions, which is quite helpful. Midterm, final, and 3-5 page paper with a creative component.

This class was great except for the midterm and final. The test was list after list not relating to a lot of in class material. You learn so much in the class but very little is found on the final or midterm. The test consist of list from the textbook and online material which is very frustrating. However, if you are good at memorizing the class is great because you do learn a lot in the actually class and a lot of great guest lecturers.

Once you figure out his style the class isn't that hard. A few key things, you need to go to class and take good detailed notes. On top of that do the readings and underline important things (they're not long). For tests you need to go back and memorize your underline and what seems important for class because the tests will be fill in the blank

How to do well in this class: 1) Go to lecture. Write down "lessons" from the guest speakers or films and record all the info on Bateman's slides. 2) Memorize almost everything in the readings. Sometimes he asks big, overarching questions; other times he asks for very specific words / small lists embedded in a book chapter. Get your notecards out. 3) Occasionally contribute to class discussion. If he knows your name, you're more likely to get into the minor. And, he claims, extra credit.
