If you go to class regularly, keep up with homework (only 80% is needed to get 100% on the HW portion of the final grade), attend review sessions and office hours, and read the textbook, you'll do well in this class. You get back exactly what you put into the class. Midterms and Final can be intimidating, as each question equates to roughly 1% of your final grade. That being said, I'd recommend this class to those interested in the Comm School and the Engineering Business Minor. There are better classes to take if you want a grasp of personal finance.

Strongly recommend Backof, as long as you are prepared to attend class. Material to be tested on the exam explicitly covered in class and reinforced in the homework. While she only requires a score of 80% on the homework to receive full credit, having unlimited attempts and the aforementioned material being introduced thoroughly in class makes it easy to finish it all, and I know that individuals who settled for only completing 85% or so didn't do as well come exam time. Tests were fair and relatively easy. Backof is a terrific intro professor, she does well to make the class as interesting as she can (some days better than others), and the course (especially coming from the E-School) was a breeze. Meet with your end of semester paper group early, get it out of the way.

Backof is great - not a big econ or comm guy, but she made the course painless. The class is really not that hard if you go to every class and study for two days before the exams. Backof is very easy to talk to and very helpful. Definitely recommend the course.

I came into this class thinking it would be extremely difficult and I would constantly be frustrated and hate the class. Boy was I wrong. Professsor Backof really knows her stuff and teaches the class really well. She's a fair teacher and the material isn't very difficult to learn. As long as you go to class, take notes, do the homework, and progressively learn the material, you'll find that the tests are very doable. Each midterm is 25 questions and the final is 50 questions. All the tests are 100% multiple choice, which I thought was a bad thing but turned out to be a blessing. This is because her questions tend to have only three choices so it's much easier to narrow down to the correct answer.

Really nice professor! Make sure to ask tons of questions even if the answers Backof give is unclear. The course is not difficult if you put the time and effort into learning basic accounting.

I was very scared to take this class due to the rumors and reviews, however Professor Backof is great! I never once fell asleep during her lectures because she made the material interesting. The exams and homework are definitely tricky, but if you put in the work and study the material well, you will be fine. I also recommend her office hours, as she easily clears up questions about her notes. Also- find a group to study with as it helps A LOT!

This class is not nearly as difficult as the rumors say. People typically think the material is boring, but Backof keeps you coming back every class with her perkiness. She is definitely attractive.

Professor Backof is very sweet and good at teaching the material. Financial accounting is not an easy topic to understand. Highly recommend doing as many practice problems as possible and working with her or her GA's during office hours. There are two midterms and a final as well as weekly homework assignments. It is easy to get 100% on the homework.

Professor Backoff is one of the nicest professors I've had at the semester! She is very knowledgeable about accounting and was able to make a topic as boring as accounting easy to understand and interesting to listen to. However, this is not an easy class. They don't call it the weed out class for Pre-comm people for nothing. However, Professor Backoff is very approachable and I often went to her office hours to ask her about topics we covered in class and she was always happy to help in any way possible. After going to her office hours, my grades improved dramatically and I ended up doing very well in the class. My greatest piece of advice is pay attention during lecture. Everything on her note sheet is fair game for her exams, which are hard. Also RRH120 is a fairly warm room with very comfortable chairs and I often found myself dozing off. In all honesty, this class is like a math class. The more you understand the material and practice it, the better you will be on the exams. Good luck!!
