Very good class. While you may not think attendence is necessary, they take attendance and you can learn some things by going to class.

This class follows the textbook pretty closely. He's not going to trick you on the tests.

Pretty easy class. The test questions were direct quotes from the text book. You don't really need to attend the classes, just read the text before the test.

tests are not that difficult but are straight from the book and there are some that are a bit tricky unless you've really covered the book. if you know that, you're good to go. the lectures are pointless, and though he's a nice professor, lectures are pretty lackluster.

There is almost zero need to go to class. The tests are all based on the book.

Typical easy, introductory class. If you actually study and read the chapters the tests aren't that bad

Fairly pointless, but if you're pre-COMM, it is a necessary evil. Starting in Fall '07, the class had a new book and no longer had a lab. As of now, all the questions on the test are straight from the book and have nothing to do with lecture. Read the book closely, especially boxes like Global Effects and whatnot, and you'll do fine.

To put it simply, Atchison is probably the most boring, unenthusiastic professor I have ever had. I stopped going to class and just read the book. He basically reads off of slides that are taken from the book's publisher package. It worked out fine for me, and I didn't waste my time.

This class lacks coherent structure or any form of organization. The material may be useful, and in some cases, interesting, but with the disjointed presentation of lectures and the near-illegibility of the textbook, it is impossible to tell. Do not take this class unless you absolutely have to in order to get into Comm School.
