This class made me regret making biochemistry my major. The amount of work that you have to put in for this class is ridiculous, and the type of work is tedious and unnecessary. For example, homework assignments spanning 8+ pages are required to be handwritten in your lab notebooks, and then photocopied so that you can submit them to your TA. Professor Columbus tries to be helpful, but her lectures were disorganized and uninformative. Lecture time is spent focusing on material that can be easily learned outside of class. Dr. Price seemed to be the only one who knew how to properly teach, but she only lectured once or twice. The actual material is interesting and some labs are fun, but they only cover basic biochemistry material. The final was manageable if you studied well.

Amount of time spent writing and working on lab reports may vary with the lab report. First semester of biochem lab is a bit tedious at times, and definitely very time consuming (not very rewarding, if I may add) and aside from running assays (which many of the people who sign up for this class may have experience with already) you don't really learn anything new. They do teach you how to do research though, so if that's up your alley...

Difficult course - the material isn't too hard, it's just a lot of work - expect to spend a lot of time writing lab reports.
