Prof Holmes was the best professor I have had in my time at UVA for this course despite him teaching this course for the first time. He is vividly aware of student schedules, and designed his course with this in mind. His homeworks were incredibly difficult, but were ultimately where you learned to apply skills to the real world. The idea that he understood that these homeworks were difficult and made it so that an 80% on these assignments translated to an A as a final grade, and a 70% on the exams corresponded to B+/A-/A in the end really helped put ease to the student's mind that they were learning real material with real problems that were not being overly simplified to a fault while not having to worry about getting a C or failing the course. He will be missed!
