Not recommended for a first year. The professor is amazing and combines a love of the history of art with a very masterful approach towards historical criticism and research. Tests may be a little obscure and byzantine, but are basically fair. Do the work and you'll do fine. Just, if you're a first year? Prepare beforehand. The class is somewhat geared towards those taking it for a related major, so things will progress fairly quickly and you will be expected to keep up.

Such an easy class. I didn't do many of the readings (though I would recommend them -- they're interesting). Just cram like hell 2-3 days before the midterm and final and you'll do very well. Work hard on the paper (it's only 3-4 pages iirc). Do that and you'll get an A or A+ (it's totally possible to get an A+ in this class). Schoenthal is also very nice and approachable. I asked her a question once after class and she took me to the Fine Arts Cafe and explained everything well.
