Taking this class was one of the biggest mistakes I have made as a student. Anthropology is not my field of study, but I took Water Worlds because it sounded slightly interesting and fairly easy. However, this was the most boring class I have ever had to sit through. The class grade is made up of participation, a final paper, some weekly writing assignments and an abstract + bibliography assignment for the final paper. I received perfect or nearly perfect grades on every assignment and only was absent for 1 class (2 absences allowed), however when final grades were released, my grade was not consistent at all with the grades I had been receiving up until that point. On top of this, Professor Farmer released final grades over a week later than any of my other classes and also with ZERO explanation as to how the grade was calculated or what your grade on the final paper was. I would not recommend this class to anyone under any circumstances, especially if you are not already interested in the subject, because all this class did was make me certain that I will never take another course in anthropology again. I know that Professor Farmer had a tough semester personally and it is plausible that this caused her teaching mishaps, because I find it hard to believe that she could have taught classes in this same manner previously and not received numerous complaints.
