I do not recommend this class. Professor Gaines is very smart, but the class is boring and ultimately assessments are based on your ability to regurgitate information from lecture. I've heard this is essentially a worse version of From Motown to Hip-Hop, but haven't taken that so can't recommend you there instead. You will probably get an A, but you will need to be diligent about taking notes in class, memorizing, and visiting office hours for essay planning before exams. There are extra credit opportunities, but if you are taking this because you think it will be easy/won't require work, please reconsider. Also--I gave up on doing the readings and you can do fine if you are meticulous about lecture notes. #tCFS24
